Tunstead has been a place where local people have worshipped before the Norman Conquest and the current church itself dates back to c. 1327. St Mary the Virgin stands slightly away and to the North-East of Market Street (the main street through Tunstead) although, paradoxically, is situated in the centre of the village boundary.

St. Mary's Church, TunsteadThe church is still active and St. Mary’s has a dedicated community within the village who come together for worship and reflection as well as holding various events such as the Flower & Photographic festival. The church also continues to host weddings. One of the parishioners will be married in the church in the early Summer of 2017.

Interregnum update
Twelve months have passed since the retirement of Father Anthony and we are now experiencing the first signs of the break up of the long standing group. The Rev Paul Cubitt, vicar of North Walsham, was commissioned on 19th October as acting Priest in Charge of Worstead with Westwick prior to the parishes becoming members of the North Walsham Benefice. North Walsham clergy will commence service sat Worstead on Advent Sunday, 3rd December at 9:15am. Meanwhile Tunstead are in discussions with the Archdeacon on the amalgamation with a Broadland benefice, whilst Sloley and Swanton Abbot are in talks with King’s Beck benefice. – John Wild (from the St Benet’s at Waxham and Tunstead Deanery Digest).
