• Community Speed Watch Volunteers Needed

Community Speed Watch was started in 2007, as an initiative to help communities play an active role in tackling speeding in their villages.

Tunstead and Sco Ruston used to have a speed watch team, but this was disbanded some time ago. Our local Beat Manager (police officer) wishes to restart the speed watch team again. A team consists of a minimum of six people, who will be trained in using the speed measuring equipment, with one member of the team being the coordinator who will hold the equipment and be the main point of contact.

Results of the teams are sent to a central point who will send out letters to the registered keeper of the vehicle that was observed driving over the speed limit. The letter will remind them about the hazards of speeding, and ask them to keep within the speed limits. Persistent offenders will be contacted by the local police engagement officer.

If you wish to join the team of Community Speed Watch Volunteers, please contact the Norfolk Safety Camera Partnership on 01603 276433 or the local district Engagement Officer by dialling 101.

The North Norfolk Police have published a booklet about the scheme. Click the underlined words to download the Community Speed Watch booklet.

  • Defibrillator Fund Raising

    Good News!

    We have done it!

The village has rallied round and with the help of the parish clerk applying for grants from the Awards for All (National Lottery) and The British Heart Foundation, we have all the money needed to get the defibrillator. That is £2000 raised in 8 months.

Many from the village contributed directly to the fund; The school, The Horse and Groom and its customers, the church goers. A big thank you to you all. You are incredible.

The next step is to order the defibrillator and the special heated box to keep it in. This will be installed in the ‘phone box, opposite the school, which will be refurbished prior to the installation.

BT will pay for the electricity supply for the next 7 years. This is needed to maintain the defibrillator in a working and fully charged condition.

The British Heart Foundation supplied equipment for CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training. This is a useful addition to learning how to use the defibrillator. Training sessions will be set up to show how the equipment can be used. Come along and watch or give it a go. Watch this space for more details.

  • Church Working Party

Church of St. Mary's, TunsteadSt Mary’s Church, Tunstead is holding a working party at 10:00 am this Saturday 31st March for a general clear up outside. They are looking for people of the parish to come and help. If you can spare an hour please come along and lend a hand. The church council would like to spruce up the church for a wedding the following Friday.  Of special interest is that the bells will be rung for this wedding.

If you can help please just turn up and bring a rake and wheelbarrow if possible.

    Thanks

  • Defibrillator update

Here is an update on the Defibrillator fund.

As you know from a previous posting, the School’s Arts and Craft Club created and sold bead hearts, like the photo. They raised £27.50 as reported in the previous update.

The Horse and Groom and their customers have also been busy collecting at the bar and from the Quiz Night revenue and prize money; their pre-Christmas total was £85.91. Over the Christmas period a group of friends visited the Horse and Groom. They collected forfeits during their stay, and added another £170 to the fund. We would like to say thank you to these anonymous people for their generous contribution.

Don’t forget that another business is willing to contribute to the fund, if their customers come from the village and join the loyalty scheme. For details contact James Ellis who owns Platinum Auto Care garage in Wroxham for details via Facebook on https://www.facebook.com/MyPAC

The parish clerk applied for a grant from the British Hear Foundation, and we received £600 from them. At the last count we have now raised A total of £965.11.

£305.91 from the Horse and Groom
    £27.50 from the primary school
    £31.70 from the carol service
£600.00 from the British Heart Foundation

The village has now adopted the phone box opposite the school, and we will soon be able to start work on its refurbishment ready for defibrillator unit, when it is purchased. Currently we are working out the running costs, and are awaiting the result of a search on the best insurance premium.

BT have agreed to sponsor the initiative, by supplying the electricity free of charge for 7 years. The electricity is used to keep the defibrillator heated, and it’s battery topped up. BT will also supply the paint and stickers.

We do not yet have a final total money needed to set the unit up, but it is likely to be in the region of £2000. There are still some technical and legal boxes to tick, but the parish clerk has these in hand. We will keep you posted through this blog.

    So hearty thanks goes to
