• Harvest Festival

Last Sunday evening, 1st October, the community of St. Mary’s Church, Tunstead celebrated the season with a Harvest Festival at evensong. The service was conducted by the Rev. Tim Gosden who spoke about the celebration of harvest throughout time, and the origins of the current style of commemorating the harvest season from its origins in Victorian times through to the present. He then looked forward to the future, and talked about the importance of helping the children remember this time of year. So, St. Mary’s will be holding a special service for the children of Tunstead Primary School on Tuesday 3rd October at 1:30pm.

Before Sunday evening’s service, local bell ringers sounded the church’s eight bells. The bells could be heard as people made their way to church, and helped set the mood of celebration. After the service, members of St Mary’s Church invited everyone to the Harvest Supper they had prepared. The people that had made and bought the food did a wonderful job, and a splendid spread was laid out; with a wide selection of cheeses, breads, sandwiches and cake.  Wine and soft drinks were available too.
