  • Successful Marc James Evening

Tim Place’s “The Barn” hosted Tunstead Village Hall’s  fund raising event at which Marc James entertained us. Around 70 people came to the event arriving at 7:30 for Marc’s entrance onto the stage, amidst smoke and coloured lighting at 8:00pm. He  presented a high energy evening of song from the Country and Western genre as well as songs from the 60s and 70s. He sang songs that the likes of Don Williams, Willy Nelson and Chuck Berry had made famous. He also covered songs by The Monkees, The Beatles, Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond.

He easily commanded the small stage using it to its full extent, even coming down onto the dance floor and the tables during the evening. He fully engaged his audience. He encouraged people onto the dance floor to “jiggle” as he put it. Though I must admit people did not need too much encouragement. There were people on the dance floor for almost all of the evening, with a group of line dance aficionados showing us how its done.

Derek Kirk did a grand job selling raffle tickets. The top prize being a large fruit basket. A special prize went to the lucky ticket. To qualify, the ticket had to be bought and paid for in advance. The winner of that draw also won a fruit basket. Tickets could be bought on the door, and Sarah Bishop made sure that entrance into the venue went smoothly.

There was a licenced bar run by the staff of Place UK. At the early evening break refreshments were provided and served by Wendy Atkins and Christine Pallister. The egg rolls were “to die for”.

The evening was full of fun and a great success as can be seen by the fact that over £340 was raised towards the Tunstead Village Hall and Recreation Ground fund.

Thanks to those who came to make the evening so successful and many, many thanks to the organisers of the event.
